Friday’s game was scoreless through nine innings forcing the teams to use the international tiebreaker rule.

Chelsea Wall was placed on second base to start the top of the 10th inning for the Lady Vikings where she moved up on a wild pitch and score on a hit by Brooke Skinner.

Katelyn Miller was placed at second in Ashland’s half of the inning and she scored on a hit by Kathryn Jackson.

In the 11th inning, Ada Humphrey was placed on second and Nikki Nance followed with a hit to put runners on the corners. Brittany Foster singled for a run and Wall reached on an error as the second run came home.

Besides the offense, the Lady Vikings made some key plays on defense. Second baseman Jessie Morris threw for runners out at home and Skinner cut down three more at the plate from her shortstop position.

“No errors in 11 innings says a lot about your defense,” said Estep. “We had great pitching, great defense and clutch hitting.”

Erica Corn got the win in relief of Nance who went 8.1 innings.

Ashland is now 6-1.

The Lady Vikings didn’t need extra innings to beat Spring Valley on Saturday because they had five extra base hits among their 17.

Skinner and Wall each slugged home runs to lead the assault. Morris, Skinner and Wall also had doubles.

Wall was 4-4 and Nance 4-6 to lead the offense. Skinner went 2-3 while Morris and Kayla Ross were 2-4.

Corn went the first three innings while Nance finished to get the win. The duo combined for nine strikeouts and only one walk.

The Lady Vikings took a 3-2 lead after one inning, but they used a 3-run homer by Skinner to score four times in the second and it was 7-2. They added another run in the fourth.

Spring Valley (1-8) scored five times in the bottom of the fourth inning to get within 8-7, but the Lady Vikings came right back with five in the fifth as Skinner had a two-run double.

The Lady Vikings (4-1) play at Eastern Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.
