BEAVER — Evan Herrell hasn’t played baseball for a few years. You can’t convince the Eastern Eagles of that.

Herrell went 3-for-4 with a home run as the Symmes Valley Vikings routed Eastern 13-2 Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

“Herrell had a good game. He’s really coming on. He hasn’t played for awhile and he’s starting to become a baseball player,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The Vikings (3-2, 2-0) had 11 hits with Cody Myers and Kyle Bowen adding doubles. Bowen was 2-3 at the plate.

“We hit the ball pretty well and Cody pitched a nice game. It’s always good to get a league win,” said Renfroe.

Myers got the win with a 4-hitter. He struck out five, walked one and only one run was earned.

The Vikings jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second inning and then blew the game open with six runs in the third inning. Bowen and Myers had two-run doubles in the uprising.

Herrell belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning to cap the scoring and set up the 10-run mercy rule win.

The Vikings host South Gallia Tuesday and visit Green on Wednesday in a league game.
