PROCTORVILLE — Good pitching will stop good hitting.

Call Sashe Burcham “The Stopper.”

Burcham pitched a one-hitter and drove in a run as the Fairland Lady Dragons blanked the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 3-0 Tuesday.

“Sashe pitched well. Ironton has a good hitting team and she held them to one hit,” said Fairland coach Joe Auxier.

Burcham struck out nine and walked on to get the win. Kylie Summers pitched well in defeat as she gave up five hits, fanned six and walked two.

Fairland got the only run it needed in the third inning when Chloe Stanley singled, stole second base, and scored when Ironton elected to throw to third base on Chelsea Stanley’s ground ball but the ball got away for an error.

Summers doubled to start the sixth for Ironton’s only hit, but Burcham struck out the next three batters.

Fairland added two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Jaimie Phillips singled with one out, moved up on a fielder’s choice and scored when Burcham doubled. Amber Bias singled to drive in Burcham with the final run.

Ironton hosts Gallipolis Wednesday while Fairland (3-3) entertains Wayne, W.Va., Thursday.
