PROCTORVILLE — If pitching is the key to baseball, the Fairland Dragons have quite a key ring.

Pitching continued to dominate for the Dragons as Chad Fisher tossed a 4-hitter and Fairland beat the Chesapeake Panthers 7-2 Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Fisher struck out seven and walked two in going the distance as Fairland improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the league.

“Pitching has been our forte so far,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward. “Fisher was pretty good again.”

Fairland backed Fisher with 12 hits led by Jon Baise who went 3-4. Brandon Begil went 2-3 and Alex Thackston was 2-4.

The Dragons took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Baise and Thackston singled, Fisher reached on an error, Matt Campbell grounded out to score a run and Begin had an RBI single.

Javier Rowe singled, stole second base and scored on Thackston’s double and it was 3-0 in the second inning.

Fairland added a run in the third on a walk to Tyler Duty and singles by Begil and Eric Riley.

Chesapeake got within 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning on singles by Shane Pelfrey and Jarred Brown and Gabe Freyre’s 2-run double.

Fairland answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Baise singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Fisher. Campbell doubled home Fisher and Duty had an RBI single.

“We finally got the bats going. We came out Sunday and took some (batting practice) and worked on some things,” said Ward.

The Dragons play at South Point Wednesday.
