Offense propels Redwomen past Lady Pointers in OVC, 10-6

SOUTH POINT — So that’s where you’ve been hitting the bats.

The Rock Hill Redwomen found their bats and banged out 17 hits en route to a 10-6 win over the South Point Lady Pointers Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Morgan Schug and Morgan Damron each went 4-4 to lead the offensive output Amy Lien went 4-4 for South Point.

“They came to hit today,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper. “We hit the ball well and Damron did a good job pitching.”

Rock Hill (4-6, 2-2) erupted for six runs in the first inning.

Duncan reached on an error and BreeAnna Depriest singled for a run. Chelsea Harper and Schug singled for a run and Dani Crabtree followed with an RBI single.

Damron doubled home two more runs, Megan Russell had a bunt single and Nicole Stamper grounded out as a run scored.

South Point got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Lien singled, Emilee Button had a sacrifice bunt and Courtney Koukos grounded out.

Rock Hill got the run back in the top of the second. Duncan singled, moved up on a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt, and scored on a hit by Harper.

It was 8-1 in the third inning after Damron doubled and scored on Stamper’s ground out.

The Lady Pointers scored three times in the third to get within 8-4.

Brianna Whaley walked, Katelynn Leonard singled and they moved up on a passed ball. Lien singled for two runs and came around to score on an error and a wild pitch.

Each team scored a run in the fourth inning.

Harper, Schug and Damron all singled for Rock Hill’s run while Lien singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Button for the Lady Pointers.

Rock Hill scored its final run in the fifth when Duncan singled and Depriest singled.

South Point got its final run in the sixth on a double by Leonard and a hit by Lien.

Rock Hill hosts South Gallia Tuesday in a non-league game and entertains River Valley Thursday.
