REEDSVILLE — The pitchers did their jobs by stopping the hitters, but the defense didn’t hold up its end.

With errors leading to all unearned runs, Symmes Valley’s Nikki Nance outdueled Reedsville Eastern’s Kasey Turley as the Lady Vikings beat the Lady Eagles 2-1 Tuesday.

“Nance did a whale of a job. She worked out of two bases loaded situations,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

Nance struck out 14, walked just one and gave up four hits. Turley fanned nine, walked two and gave up six hits.

The game was scoreless until Eastern (14-4) scored in the bottom of the fourth inning when Britney Morrison reached on an error, moved up on an error and scored on another error.

With the bases loaded, Nance struck out the next three batters to end the inning.

The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Lady Vikings scored twice.

Nance started the rally with a one-out single. Brooke Skinner then singled to left but an outfield error allowed Nance to score. Skinner went to third base on the play and scored when the ball was thrown away at third base.
