AID — It’s always better by the dozen.

Symmes Valley banged out 12 hits to back the pitching of Tyler Easthom and Mitchell Corn as the Vikings beat the Coal Grove Hornets 14-4 in six innings Tuesday.

“They were a little short-handed, they walked some batters and made some errors and we took advantage of it,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “We hit the ball really well and Easthom and Corn did a nice job.”

Evan Herrell went 3-4 while Kris Tibbs and Nathan Dockery were 2-3 to pace the Vikings’ offense.

Easthom got the win as he allowed seven hits, struck out three, walked one and hit a batter. Corn struck out four of the five batters he faced.

After a scoreless first inning, the Vikings banged out six hits to go with two walks and an error as they scored seven times.

The Hornets got a run in the third inning when Mark Davidson singled, moved up on a passed ball and Jake Murphy singled.

But the Vikings came right back with two in third inning to lead 9-1.

Herrell singled, Cody Myers and Easthom walked and Luke Taylor had a 2-run single.

The Vikings added two runs in the fourth innings. Kyle Bowen and Justin Payne walked, Herrell singled for a run and an error scored Payne.

Coal Grove cut the deficit to 11-4 in the fifth inning. Cody Gool singled, Davidson walked and Murphy had an RBI single. Wayne Sparks and Frank Delawder followed with RBI doubles.

Symmes Valley got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Jacob Patterson was hit by a pitch, stole second, came to third on a ground out and scored on Tibbs’ sacrifice fly.

The Vikings ended the game with two runs in the sixth.

Corn singled, Herrell walked and Myers singled to load the bases. Easthom walked to force in a run and Taylor was hit by a pitch to score Herrell.

Murphy and Sparks were 2-3 for the Hornets.

Symmes Valley (9-3) hosts Eastern Wednesday.
