PROCTORVILLE — Opportunity knocked. It should have rung the bell.

Fairland failed to take advantage of its scoring chances and three errors led to all of Gallipolis’ runs as the Blue Angels beat the Lady Dragons 5-2 in eight innings Tuesday.

“We had a chance to win it in the seventh inning but we couldn’t get the run in,” said Fairland coach Joe Auxier. “But our girls played well and hung in there and gave themselves a chance to win and that’s all you can ask for.”

Gallipolis scored twice in the first inning on two bunt singles and a throwing error.

The game remained 2-0 until Fairland tied the score with two runs in the seventh.

Chelsey Stanley beat out a bunt with one out. Haley Woodall singled up the middle, Keri Pinkerman walked to load the bases and Sashe Burcham delivered a clutch two-run single.
