CHESAPEAKE — There are three facets to the game. The Fairland Dragons did them all well.

Chad Fisher pitched a five-hitter, the Dragons had 16 hits and the defense made only one error as Fairland beat the Chesapeake Panthers 10-1 Wednesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“Fisher threw the ball well and we played good defense. Right now we just want to keep playing well and keep winning,” said Fairland coach Bryan Ward.

The defense also turned a pair of double plays over the first two innings.

“Chad threw just 14 pitches in the first two innings,” said Ward.

Fairland (11-3, 5-1) wasted little time by scoring three runs in the first inning.

Jon Baise singled, stole second base and Alex Thackston had an RBI single. Fisher singled and Tyler Duty hit into a fielder’s choice as Thackston scored. Duty stole second and Eric Riley had a run-scoring single.

The Dragons scored four more in the third.

Fisher doubled, Matt Campbell singled in a run and stole second. Duty singled and Riley singled for two runs. Brandon Begil was hit by a pitch and Javier Roe had an RBI single.

A run scored in the fourth when Duty reached on an error, stole second and Riley singled.

The lead went to 9-0 in the fifth on singles by Thackston, Fisher and Campbell.

Fairland’s final run came in the seventh. Fisher was hit by a pitch, advanced on a ground out and Duty had an RBI single.

Chesapeake avoided a shutout with a run in the fifth when Tommy Noble and Les Counts singled, moved up on a passed ball and Brandon Noble walks, and a passed ball.

Fairland plays at Rock Hill Thursda in a makeup game and hosts South Point on Friday.
