CHESAPEAKE — It might have been the Panther Relays, but they belong to the Dragons.

The Fairland Dragons and Lady Dragons both came away as team winners of the Panther Relays Tuesday.

The meet features relays that are not used at conventional meets, and field events are the combined distances of three participants per team. However, some teams did not have three participants and their totals reflected either one or two entries.

“It’s different and it gives teams a chance to have a little more fun with their events. You see some kids in events they normally don’t compete in,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Dana Edwards.

One example is Ironton’s Ryan Sias who threw the discus for the first time and tossed it more than 41 feet.

Fairland won the girls meet with 48 points, four more than runner-up River Valley. The boys’ had 64 points to finish ahead of host Chesapeake who had a total of 50 points.

Teams will participate in the Rock Hill Invitational Friday. The Ohio Valley Conference meet will be Friday, May 14, at Rock Hill while the SEOAL meet is Saturday, May 15, at Marietta.
