SPRINGFIELD — Verla L. Payne Watrous Switzer, 94, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Ohio Masonic Home in Springfield.
Verla was born May 10, 1915, in Andis, to the late Oscar and Lucetta (Clay) Payne.
She was a member of the Lawrence County Genealogical Society; First Families of Lawrence County Ohio; the Virginia Genealogical Society; the Ohio American Legion Women’s Auxiliary; the Orchid Society; a former member of the Minerva Chapter 101 O.E.S.; and a charter member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. Verla worked for many years in cosmetology and was a former president of the Ohio Cosmetology Association.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin L. Watrous; second husband, Frank Switzer; son, Melvin Watrous; brothers, Ralph and Stanley Payne; and sister, Lola McCoy.
Verla is survived by her son, Daniel Watrous; step-son, Jack (Pat) Switzer; sister, Betty Payne; half-sister, Doris Gillette; and step-brother, Jim Payne; longtime friend, Yvonne Howell; other family and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel 3030 W. Broad St. with the Rev. Vijay Buck officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
