PEDRO — The last week of the regular season brought a lot of “firsts” for the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers.

Wednesday’s Day of Champions game saw Ironton win for the first time against the North Division as the Lady Tigers beat the Logan Lady Chieftains 6-3 as catcher Emily Lilly hit the first home run at Logan’s new field.

On Friday, Ironton held on to beat the Rock Hill Redwomen 6-5 to give the Lady Fighting Tigers their first-ever 20-win season.

“We are enjoying these girls and their efforts,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.

“They have worked hard to achieve success this year. They know the true meaning of team work.”

In the win over Logan, Kylie Summers got the win with relief help from Rebekkah Potter.

Janie Morris went 3-4, Taylor Lilly 2-4 and Emily Lilly 2-3 including a solo home run leading off a four-run fourth inning that built a 6-1 lead.

Nikki Elswick, Brea Tackett and Potter all had doubles in the win.

Karlie Collins pitched six innings and Potter finished up as they combined on a four-hitter against Rock Hill.

Alex Taylor swung the big bat as she went 2-3 with a double and a two-run homer run in the sixth inning that provided the margin of victory.

Morris went 2-4 with a double.

Both teams play in the sectional tournament at 5 p.m. next Friday. Ironton hosts the Minford-Coal Grove winner and Rock Hill entertains Fairland.
