PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen treated Tuesday’s Div. III sectional tournament like the aging of wine.

Give it a little time and then you get the good stuff.

Rock Hill waited until the sixth inning to scored eight runs and rally past the South Point Pointers 10-7.

“It took a while, but we finally got it going,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“It was a good team win. Everybody contributed. Guys came off the bench and helped and we got good pitching.”

Rock Hill (14-8) plays at 5 p.m. Friday at Lucasville Valley in the sectional finals.

Each team got a run in the first inning on a two-out, solo home run. Kyle Dickess connected for the Pointers while Devin Darby cranked a long ball for the Redmen.

Rock Hill took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Jeremy Blagg singled, moved up on a ground out and scored on a hit by Shane Russell.

South Point grabbed a 5-2 lead with four unearned runs in the fourth inning.

Tyler Jenkins reached on an error, Cody Taylor walked, Austin Majher walked to load the bases. Tyler Gregory walked to force in a run, Adkins reached on a two-out error for a run and Dickess capped the rally with a two-run single.

“We just can’t make the physical errors in the field that we made tonight if we want to beat a team like Valley,” said Litteral.

The Pointers’ lead went to 7-2 in the top of the sixth.

Gregory was safe on an error, Robert Woodard and Adkins walked and Stephen McClure had a two-out, two-run single.

But Rock Hill finally came to life in the bottom of the inning.

Jonathan Schob doubled, Matt Jenkins walked and Alex Bare got a bunt single to load the bases.

Josh Malone was hit by a pitch to score pinch-runner Laden Delawder and Drew Kidd had an RBI single to score pinch-runner Nick McGuire.

Darby was safe on a fielder’s choice as a run scored and the bases remained loaded. Cody Massie singled in two runs, Blagg doubled in a run and Schob followed with a two-run single to cap the rally.

Darby came on to pitch the seventh inning and retired the Pointers in order to notch the save.
