PEDRO — When the Rock Hill Redwomen do something, they do it together.
And together they were able to beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 4-1 Friday to win the Div. III sectional softball title.
“The girls did well. They played team ball. Everyone contributed something and they all did really well,” said Rock Hill coach Mary Harper. “Our defense played really well.”
Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
Courtney Duncan tripled and BreeAnna Depriest singled her home. Chelsea Harper put down a sacrifice bunt and Morgan Schug singled home the second run.
Fairland cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth inning when Sashe Burcham reached on a fielder’s choice, Amber Bias sacrificed courtesy runner Chloe Stanley to second. Keri Napier singled to put runners on the corner.
Stormie Spitzer hit into a fielder’s choice with Stanley thrown out at home, but on the relay throw to first base Napier came home to score.
Rock Hill got two insurance runs in the fifth.
Depriest walked and Harper and Schug singled to load the bases. Morgan Damron hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Depriest, but the ball was dropped and allowed Harper to score.
Schug got the win with a four-hitter and went 3-3 at the plate. Haylia Gannon was 2-3.
Chelsea Stanley went 2-2 for Fairland.
