FLATWOODS, Ky. — Hattie “Bigmom” Nelson, 89, of Flatwoods, went to be with The Lord Sunday, May 16, 2010, from the home of her granddaughter, Heather (Sammy) Jenkins of Flatwoods, Ky.
She was born Oct. 23, 1920 in Pedro, Ohio, a daughter of the late Dock Gray and Minerva Barnhart DePriest.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Moose” Nelson; a son, Gerald Lea Nelson; a granddaughter, Rebecca Ruth Brown; seven brothers, Everett DePriest, Dockie Depriest, Fred DePriest, George DePriest, Emmitt DePriest, Lawrence DePriest and Ken DePriest; five sisters, Mabel McCoy, Rosalee Roof, Helen Easterling, Murtie Layne and Margaret Davis and a special daughter-in-law, Martha Pickard Willis.
She is survived by son, Harold Willis of Greensboro, N.C.; two daughters, Janet (Tracy) Brown of Greenup and Wanda (Lawrence) McKenzie of Flatwoods; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren and special friends Chris and Angie Criswell of Worthington, Ky.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reed Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Brown officiating. Burial will be in the McGuire Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of funeral Tuesday at the funeral home.
