Woman thrown from car during altercation
An incident Friday afternoon in the 800 block of Fourth Street has left an Ironton woman injured and a man behind bars.
Mark Elswick, 51, of 804 S. 10th St., Ironton, turned himself in to Ironton Police Sunday. He was charged with felonious assault and taken to jail.
The victim, Sahara Murphy, 40, was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va., with reported head injuries. Information on her condition was not available as of press time.
Authorities said the couple was apparently arguing over a vehicle when Elswick reportedly tried to drive off in the 1996 red Honda Passport.
Murphy allegedly threw herself on the hood of the car but was thrown off of it. Authorities said it is believed the car belongs to Murphy.
“That’s what we’re discussing now,” Ironton Police Detective Chris Bowman said. “The car is registered in her name. All indications point to that but we’ve been unable to speak with her.”
The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.
