Ironton Trooper receives Ace Award

COLUMBUS — Tpr. Ryan E. Robirds of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Ironton Post was honored with the Ace Award at ceremonies held at the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Jackson District Headquarters Thursday. Major Daniel Kolcum, commander of the Office of Special Operations, presented Tpr. Robirds with the second Ace Award of his career.

The Ace Award is for excellence in auto larceny enforcement. Tpr. Robirds recovered five stolen vehicles with a combined value of $17,000 and apprehended six suspects in connection with the thefts. A certificate, uniform ribbon, and Ace license plates for display on his cruiser were presented to him.

Tpr. Robirds joined the Patrol in March 2006 as a member of the 146th Academy Class. He received his commission that October and was assigned to the Ironton Post, where in 2008 he earned his first Ace Award.

Jazz vocalist to perform at OUS

IRONTON — Jazz vocalist Kim Keffer will perform at 7:30 p.m. May 24 at the Mains Rotunda of Ohio University Southern.

Keffer’s current show, “Music from the Great American Songbook,” includes songs by such great American composers as George and Ira Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, Thelonious Monk, and many others from the Great American Songbook with arrangements by Barry W. Gillium. Keffer delivers an honest, compelling version of each selection.

“I love these songs,” said Keffer. “These songwriters focused on the perfect blend of music and story. The result is some of the greatest love songs ever written.”
