Dale Eugene “Gene” Neal, 87 of Ironton passed away Friday, May 21, 2010, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Marion native was born Aug. 2, 1922, the son of the late Simeon and Hazel Anson Neal. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Hensley Neal who passed away in February of 1980.
Mr. Neal was a 1939 graduate of Kitts Hill High School, and a World War II Army Veteran. He was a laborer for the Dayton Malleable Iron Company and retired in 1983 and was a member of the 13th Street Baptist Church in Ashland, Ky.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Marion Lee; two brothers, Meryle Neal and Richard Neal; and a granddaughter, Jessica Worley.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Joe Black of South Point, and Terri and Rick Worley of Hecla; two sons and daughter-in-law, Greg and Roxane Neal of Raleigh, N.C. and Scott Neal of Hecla; three grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Milem of South Point and Tammi Carlisle of Flatwoods, Ky.; and two great grandchildren, Zach Butler and Caleb Davis.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with Elder Ron Trabandt and Minster David Ritchie officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
