A man who was preempted his criminal trial last week by pleading guilty to the felonious assault charge against him was sentenced Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Charles Cooper sentenced William B. Varney, 34, of Ashland, Ky., to four years in prison.
Also Wednesday, Jason Scott Preston, 35, of 255 Township Road 318, Ironton, pleaded guilty on a bill of information to one count of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.
He also admitted he violated his probation by using alcohol. Cooper sentenced Preston to a total of 18 months in prison.
By pleading guilty on a bill of information, Preston bypassed having his case heard by a grand jury. His case proceeded to sentencing.
Jessica Holston, 32, of 48 Township Road 1051, Ironton, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal non-support.
Cooper sentenced her to four years community control sanctions under intensive supervised probation (known commonly as probation) and ordered her to make regular payments toward her $8,577 arrearage as well as regular child support payments. She must also successfully complete a rehabilitation program at the STAR Community Justice Center.
Joshua Kelly, 24, of 501 Pike St., Coal Grove, pleaded guilty to one count of receiving stolen property that was amended from the original charge of burglary. Cooper sentenced him to 12 months in prison.
