COAL GROVE — Coming off of the tracks only off week this summer, the Rocky Top Raceway is preparing to host one of it’s most unique races ever on Friday.

For the first time at RTR, both the Late Model and AMRA Modified divisions will take the roof and side panels off the top of the cars and race topless.

More money will also be up for grabs as the “Topless 25” for Late Models will pay $1,500 to win and the AMRA Modified “Topless 20” will pay $800 to win.

Topless races have been quite frequent throughout the history of Dirt Late Model racing.

Although not as common today, many regional tracks host a topless Late Model special each season.

The largest topless Late Model race each year is the $40,000 to win “Topless 100” held at the Batesville Speedway in Arkansas each August.

Topless races are much less common in the AMRA Modified division, making Friday’s race all the more special.

General admission Friday is only $12 with kids (7-12) general admission $2, kids six and under free, and pit passes $25. Gates open at 4 p.m. with Hot Laps at 7:30.

Also running Friday will be the Bomber and Mod Lite divisions for regular purses.
