You could say that showing chickens is a family affair for Tiffany Wilson.

The 10th grade Symmes Valley High School student won grand champion at the market chicken show at the Lawrence County Fair Monday.

“(It’s) awesome,” Wilson said of winning. “It was a surprise really.”

Wilson beat out her brother Chris to earn the title. Another brother, Tony Wilson, II, won the title in the 2008 competition.

Wilson, who has shown chickens for the past four years, knows exactly what she’ll do with the trophy she walked away with Monday evening.

“(I’ll) put it with my brother’s,” she said.

Brandon Watson, a senior at Symmes Valley High School, won the title of reserve champion, the highest honor he has received in his three years participating in the show.

“(Before this) the highest place I ever got was sixth,” he said.

Lydia Burdette, a senior at Collins Career Center, was awarded the senior showman in the showmanship part of the chicken show. As such, Burdette gets to participate in the showman of showmen competition later in the week.

“I’m a little nervous to show the other animals,” Burdette said. “For it to be my second time showing chickens, it feels good and I’m proud of myself.”
