Grand and reserve champs in hog heaven

The livestock arena was packed Tuesday night for the market hog show.
Nine classes of hogs were shown and two stood out as grand and reserve champions.
Jimmy Stewart, 11, of Ironton won the reserve spot with his 263-pound hog, “Buzz.”
This was his second year showing market hogs and his first time placing.
Jimmy is a member of the Greasy Ridge Gang 4-H club.
Being a fellow of few words, Jimmy said, “I worked hard.”
He also said he was happy and that he would give his trophy to, “Mamaw and Papaw.”
16-year-old grand champion winner, Shawna Myers of Arabia, was brought to tears by the judge’s decision. Her brother, Sammy, who placed fifth with his hog, gave her a big hug of congratulations.
Shawna’s 262-pound hog,”Kara,” won her her first grand champion in market hogs.
“It hasn’t hit me yet,” she said.
She is a member of the Symmes Valley FFH and the Arabia All-Stars 4-H club.
Shawna said she has been showing livestock for nine years. She also had another hog, which place sixth.
“I want to thank my uncle Joey and my grandpa Wayne Clark for always hwlping me be the best I can be,” Shawna said. “And my mom and dad, I love you.”
The judge complimented all the exhibitors by saying that all the hogs were, “overwhelming in power and squareness.”
