OUS offering summer horse camp

IRONTON—Young horse lovers entering grades third through eighth can spend one week in July learning horsemanship and riding at the Ohio University Southern “Fun with Horses Summer Camp,” which is offered for the first time this year. The Camp will be held at the Ohio Horse Park in Franklin Furnace, with transportation provided from the campus of Ohio University Southern.

The camp will be split into two, week-long sessions and students have the option of choosing the week they wish to attend. The first session begins July 26 and runs through July 30.

The second session begins Aug. 2 and continues through Aug. 6.The cost for one week of the horse adventure is $150 per student.

Campers will learn the history of the horse, breeds and identification of the horse, natural behaviors, approaching, haltering and tying, leading and riding. Each day participants will complete a horse-related craft.

All riders must wear long pants each day and bring boots with a ½ inch heel to ride in. For riders who need boots, The Ohio Horse Park has several pairs of boots available for riders to use.
