Paul Daniel Dalton, 89, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Superior, Ohio native was born May 2, 1921, the son of the late John Dalton Sr. and Myrtle Markins Dalton.
Mr. Dalton attended Superior Schools and was a member of Central Christian Church in Ironton. He was a WWII Veteran serving with the 5th Air Force in the South Pacific on the Islands of Leyte and Luzon. He received the following decorations and citations: the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with four Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, Good Conduct Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. Paul worked 33 years for Allied Chemical and retired in 1981 as a welder from the Ironton Coke Plant. He was a member of the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland where he was member of the Patrol Marching Unit, Scottish Rite in Cincinnati, a 58-year member of Lawrence Lodge #198 F&AM, Lawrence Chapter #437 Order of the Eastern Star and was the former Chairman of the Board for Ira S. Burford Demolay for Boys and served as Dad Adviser and a recipient of the Grand Croix of Colors in Demolay.
In addition to his parents Paul was preceded in death by brothers, John Dalton Jr. and Herb Dalton; and sisters, Georgia Klee, Beatrice (Bea) Conaghan, Marcella (Sally) Smith and Nancy Walker.
Paul is survived by his wife, Betty Barber Dalton whom he married July 8, 1948; son and daughter-in-law, David Lee and Michelle Dalton of Loveland; son, Paul David (P.D.) Dalton of Milford; three grandchildren, Wendy Marie Dalton, Katie Leigh Dalton and Aiden Lee Dalton; sister-in-law, Patricia Dalton of Ironton; sister-in-law, Sandra Dalton of Burlington; brother-in-law, Bill Smith of Ironton; brother-in-law, Jack Walker of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Brent Barker, Rev. Jim Williams and Rev. Bill Flannery officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the VFW Post #8850. Friends may call Friday from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home with Masonic and Scottish Rite Services at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers for the service will be Frank Dalton, Billy Smith, Tommy Dalton, Shawn Triplett, John Jones and David Conaghan. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Harris, Rodney Hess, Ted Monnig, Jack Walker and Ralph Patterson.
