Aqua Zone officially opens at the Highlands Museum

ASHLAND, Ky. — On first Friday, Aug. 6, the Highlands Museum & Discovery will open a new exhibit in the Discovery Center entitled “Aqua Zone.” This exhibit has been in the works for some time now and the final touches have been added.

The exhibit includes a 210-gallon fish tank, provided and maintained by Bert’s Pet Center.

The tank houses fish that are native to the Ohio River including the Rock Bass, Spotted Sucker, Green and Red Sunfish among many more. The fish were provided by the Northeastern Kentucky Fish & Game Association.

Children can also participate in color patterns, games, and water table activities.

Guests will have the opportunity to learn about ocean life as well as ocean coral. More additions are planned for this exhibit in the near future.

The Highlands Museum & Discovery Center is located at 1620 Winchester Ave., Ashland. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. Admission is $5.50 for adults and $4.50 for seniors, students and children. Members and children under 2 are free.
