United Way presented with check from WV 5K championship
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – On June 19, over 541 runners and walkers took to the streets of Huntington to participate in the 2nd Annual WV 5K championship.
Thanks to the hundreds of participants, Race Director Pat Riley presented United Way of the River Cities with a proceeds check for $6,000. “The total funds raised for the past two years is $10,000,” said Riley.
“It feels great to be able to support United Way and their efforts towards health and wellness,” said Riley. “This was a wonderful partnership.”
Riley also indicated that this race now holds the record as the largest 5K (most participants) in Huntington. “We hope to continue to grow this event even more next year and bring it back to Huntington,” explained Riley.
Cassey Bowden, Director of Development and Marketing for United Way said, “It was a pleasure to work with Pat and his planning committee.
They are well organized, efficient and truly care about seeing lasting change in the area of Health and Wellness in the River Cities,” said Bowden.
“This event helped promote two of United Way’s four Focus Areas — Health and Wellness and Families and Children.” United Way of the River Cities’ other Focus Areas are Learning and Earning and Basic Needs/Unforeseen Hardships.
