RIO GRANDE — Patricia Jean “Patty” Forgey, 69, Rio Grande passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2010, at her residence. Patty was born October 29, 1940, in Huntington, W. Va., to the late Maurice C. and Delores (Eldridge) Forgey.
Patty graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1958, from Rio Grande College in 1960, and began working as secretary to the Athletic Department soon after. She dutifully worked at the college for 45 years. Patty devoted her life to her personal family and her family at the University of Rio Grande. Patty attended many athletic events and was a “mom-on-the-road” to many of the ballplayers. Patty was a cheerleader advisor for eight years and sorority adviser of Chi Omega Alpha for 18 years. Patty was instrumental in forming the “Rio Fun Group” (graduates of Rio Grande High School) and hosted its reunion event for many years. Patty was a great supporter of the Gallia County Junior Fair and its youth. Patty was a member of the University Women’s Club, the Atwood Heritage Volunteers, a volunteer at the Gallipolis Developmental Center, a volunteer at the Special Olympics, and was a member of the Simpson United Methodist Church of Rio Grande.
Surviving her are a brother, Maurice (Dallie) Forgey of Thurman, nephews, Dwayne (Sandy) Forgey of Bidwell, and Stephen (Alecia) Forgey of Rio Grande, and nieces, Dianna (Michael) Eiring of Frankfort, and Lovel (Aaron) Quinn of Jackson, along with seven great-nephews and six great-nieces, many special neighbors, and friends.
Funeral services will be held under the direction of McCoy Moore Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Vinton Baptist Church with Pastor David Young officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Rio Grande. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Vinton Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews, Mike Eiring, Aaron Quinn, Seth Forgey, Christian Forgey, Anthony Forgey and Ethan Quinn.
