Fighting Tigers’ golf team downs Trojans, Ironmen

PORTSMOUTH — The Ironton Fighting Tigers are taking a liking to the Portsmouth Elks Golf Course.

After placing third in the 12-team Portsmouth Invitational two weeks ago, Ironton played well again as they posted two wins in beating the host Portsmouth Trojans by four strokes and topped the Jackson Ironmen by13 shots.

Ironton had a 166 score while Portsmouth shot a 170 and Jackson a 177.

Leading the Fighting Tigers with his continued standout play was Andy Holtzapfel with a 3-over par 36.

Josh Cooke and Josh Mullins each carded a 42 and Mason Weisgarber shot a 43. Jonathan Williams had a 45 and Josh Zornes a 46 to round out Ironton’s six-man squad scoring.

The two wins boosted Ironton’s record to 40-3on the season. The Fighting Tigers play at Gallipolis Monday in a tri-match with the Blue Devils and River Valley.
