MINFORD — Carmen Viola Toms, 84, of Minford, formerly of Lawrence County, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at her residence. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Jesse and Martha Laber Adams. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Gerald Toms.
Mrs. Toms was a graduate of Pedro High School and a former clerk for Briggs Lawrence County Library in Ironton. She was of the Baptist faith and lived most of her life in Lawrence County.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie Sue Toms; four brothers,  Thurmond Adams, Ralph Adams, James Adams and Raymond Adams; three sisters, Monica Ada Adams, Ruth Waugh and Lillian Stamper; and a special cousin, Martin Butler.
She is survived by a niece with whom she resided, Patty Johnson of Minford; a sister-in-law, Ruby Adams of Hecla; and numerous other nieces and nephews in Lawrence County, Ohio
Visitation was Friday at Phillips Funeral Home and a graveside service will be noon Tuesday in Woodland Cemetery with Pastor Darrell Grimes officiating.  Donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 35 Bierly Road, Portsmouth, OH 45662.
