PINE GROVE — Bad boys, bad boys. What ya gonna do when we come for you?

Earlier this year Ironton lost to Gallipolis and Greenup County, Ky. The Fighting Tigers were laying in waiting when the two teams returned the visit along with the Wheelersburg Pirates Thursday at the Ironton Country Club.

Ironton not only got revenge but did it in excellent fashion behind the sizzling play of Josh Zornes as they won the quad match with a season-best 148 team score for nine holes.

Greenup County played well with a 154 score followed by Gallipolis at 162 and Wheelersburg had a 180.

Zornes score was even more impressive due to the fact he began the round with a bogey on the first hole. He then had three birdies and five pars.

“Josh Zornes played the best round of his career,” said Ironton coach Jeff Kerns.

Zornes shot a 2-under par 33 to lead the Fighting Tigers. Andy Holtzapfel continued his strong play with a 38 and Josh Mullins also carded a 38. Jonathan Williams was just one stroke back at 39 while Josh Cooke had a 41 and Mason Weisgarber 42.

“We got solid golf from Andy, Mullins and Williams,” said Kerns. “We continue to be deeper than our competition and all six players have been contributing to our team success.”

Ironton is now an impressive 46-3 on the season against strong competition.

“This was an excellent win for our program,” said Kerns.

The Fighting Tigers travel to Jackson Thursday, Russell, Ky., Tuesday and South Point on Wednesday.
