Lady Pointers, Hornets post OVC wins

PROCTORVILLE — The South Point Lady Pointers are continuing their own run in the Ohio Valley Conference.
After snapping River Valley’s 39-game OVC winning streak last week, the Lady Pointers took a league volleyball win in four games Tuesday over the Fairland Lady Dragons, 25-18, 25-21, 24-26 and 25-9.
Brianna Whaley scored 17 points, Ashley Goodall 16 and Allison Mitchell 7 to lead the Lady Pointers.
The Lady Dragons were led by Samantha Lamb with 9 points, Kerie Napier with 5 points and Sashe Burcham with 6 kills.
Fairland travels to River Valley Thursday for a league match.
Coal Grove vs. Chesapeake
CHESAPEAKE — Talk about getting your money’s worth.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets used five sets to get past the Chesapeake Lady Panthers Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference volleyball match.
Coal Grove won the match 26-24, 22-25, 25-13, 18-25 and 15-9 in the tiebreaker.
“It was a great match,” said Chesapeake coach Dana Edwards. “Coal Grove didn’t make many mistakes. Coach Trisha Damron really did a good job. They definitely deserved to win.
“Bailey Harrison is one of the best spikers I’ve seen all year. She was phenomenal. Sarah Rice did a real nice job serving for us and Amanda Ruffner had a good nice with several good blocks for us.”
In the reserve match, Coal Grove won in three games, 25-27, 25-18 and 25-23.
Chesapeake travels to River Valley Thursday for a league match.
