American Legion thankful for support to vets

Published 10:19 am Friday, October 1, 2010

I would like to give a big “thank you” to all of the people in our Tri-State area for the support you have given us.

You say, “How did I give?” Well, those guys standing in the street with a bucket, that’s us.

You stopped and put money in the bucket for the veterans, or maybe you bought a ticket for a pancake breakfast or hog roast, maybe you bought a raffle ticket.

All the money that is collected goes right back into our community. Those guys in uniform that show up at the schools and teach Americanism, that’s us.

The same for Flag Etiquette. The money you put in the bucket, supports the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts, veterans in need, Honor and Color Guards for Veteran’s Funerals, and many other community programs. We are veterans helping veterans.

No, we don’t have a post building. No, we don’t have a bar. The American Legion Post 433 meets at the Ironton City Center, first floor, on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. You are welcome to attend a meeting.

We have now organized The Sons of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and The Legion Riders.

The American Legion is open for membership to any person that is a Veteran. The Sons of The American Legion is open for membership to any person that is the son, stepson or grandson of a veteran.

The American Legion Auxiliary is open for membership to any woman that is the wife, daughter, stepdaughter, or granddaughter of a veteran. The American Legion Riders is open for membership to any person that is a member of one of the other Legion organizations and owns a motorcycle.

The Riders are the fastest growing branch of The American Legion. They are not a “biker gang.” They are right there with us, in the streets with a bucket, doing fundraisers, doing funerals, doing community service, promoting community awareness, and doing the “heavy lifting” for us “old guys.”

We have a fundraiser this coming Sunday on the parking lot of City National Bank, Fifth Street and Park Avenue

Schwan’s will be selling off the trucks from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Preordering will guarantee the items you want will be available. Call Cristi at 532-8495 for preorder sales.

If you would like to be a part of something special, call Bill 304-360-2702, Tom 532-8284, Art 532-3565, or Cristi 532-8495, we would welcome you with open arms, or visit our website www.irontonohlegionpost433.org
