HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The nonprofit community cooking center that celebrity chef Jamie Oliver started in Huntington has received a $50,000 donation from Cabell Huntington Hospital.

It’s the second year in a row that Cabell Huntington has donated enough money to keep the kitchen operating for a year and spokesman Doug Sheils says it’s the community’s responsibility to tackle obesity. Oliver is no longer involved with the kitchen financially.

“It’s part of our mission to care for our community,” Sheils said. “We can’t rely upon Jamie Oliver to fix all of our problems, and we can’t rely on the state government or the federal government to fix all our problems.”

Community support since Oliver finished filming “Food Revolution” nearly a year ago has been amazing, instructional chef Joe Crockett told the Charleston Gazette. The kitchen continues to offer cooking classes focused on healthy and fresh recipes.

“This isn’t just a kitchen,” Crockett said. “It’s a community center, where people from all over the state can come, and feel welcome, and use as a tool.”

The kitchen still has moral support from Oliver. “We e-mail,” , Crockett said. “He wants it to work.”
