Norman Ray Large

COLUMBUS — Norman Ray Large, 85, of Columbus, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010. The Ironton native was born Aug. 17, 1925, the son of the late Berlin and Dessie Blair Large. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn Price Large, who passed away July 14, 2010.

Mr. Large was a graduate of Kitts Hill High School and was a U.S. WWII Navy veteran. He was a former tool and die maker for more than 35 years, with Westinghouse and retiring from General Motors Corp. He was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Columbus. He enjoyed restoring and collecting antique cars and was a devoted blood donor to the Red Cross.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Large and Carl Gene Large. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and John Stanley of Grove City; son, Greg Large of Columbus; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lisa Large of Columbus;

son, Jeff Large of Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Doug Loyd of Waxahache, Texas; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home and burial will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites by the VFW Post 8850. Family may call Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home. There will also be a memorial service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2480 W. Broad St., Columbus.
