Drive-by shooting lands man in jail

SOUTH POINT — A South Point man is in the Lawrence County Jail, arrested following a report of a drive-by shooting.

Randy Gustavo Zendejas Lopez, 19, of 223 Township Road 1186, was arrested for drug trafficking and possession and improperly discharging a firearm.

At 3:22 a.m. Tuesday the sheriff’s office received a call about shots being fired in the vicinity of Third Street West in South Point, according to a release by the sheriff’s office. A house at 104 Elm St. had been shot at several times. There were no injuries.

“Through the investigation, it was discovered that the shooting incident occurred due to an earlier fight among other individuals and it appeared the intended target of the shooting lived next to the residence that was actually shot,” the release states.

A search warrant was obtained for an apartment in the Lawrence Commons. There marijuana, cocaine, digital scales, packaging materials and money were found, according to the sheriff.

Brittney J. Morris, 24, the girlfriend of Lopez, was also charged because of the investigation. She was not transported to the jail.
