An Ironton man remains in the Lawrence County Jail after he allegedly assaulted another Ironton resident outside of the Marlow Grill on Thursday night.

Dennis Clark, 38, of 5 Yellow Branch Road in Ironton, was charged with felonious assault with harm to the victim against Eddie Thibodaux, 40, also of Ironton.

Another person was also arrested at that time but was later released, with no charges being filed.

Detective Chris Bowman of the Ironton Police Department said that officers responded to a call at the Marlow Grill, 1606 S. Third St., at 11:16 p.m. for a reported assault. Bowman said that Thibodaux was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center for apparent head wounds he received in an altercation outside the bar.

Police Chief Jim Carey said that Thibodaux was unresponsive at the scene. Thibodaux was relocated to Cabell Huntington Hospital and has underwent surgery Friday, said Bowman.

Charles Shumaker, spokesman for Cabell Huntington Hospital said Thibodaux had been downgraded to critical condition as of Saturday.

Bowman said it is still unclear why the two were fighting.

“That’s all I know at this time,” he said. “It’s still early into the investigation.”

Bowman said the investigation remains open.
