To kick off the holiday season, the Greater Ironton Area Kiwanis Club will continue a long-running fundraising tradition.

The club’s 10th annual Breakfast with Santa will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 4 in the AEP building on South Third Street.

The local Kiwanis Club will be serving up their super-secret pancake recipe, said president Steve Call, along with sausage, juice, coffee and milk.

The breakfast, which is held every year by the Kiwanis Club, helps to raise money for community service projects and scholarships that the clubs organizes.

“Proceeds are used for a scholarship we give every year,” said Call. He also said the scholarship is open to all schools in Lawrence County and is usually awarded in the spring. The amount can range from $250 to $500.

Call said that students eligible for the Ironton Kiwanis Scholarship would be those that participate in community service projects.

Call also said the proceeds of the breakfast would be used for community service projects such as health kits that are put together for school aged children. These kits would include toothbrushes, toothpaste and other items.

“Our fundraising is reinvested in the community,” said Call of the Kiwanis Club.

With the cost of the breakfast, children will also be able to get their picture taken with Santa.

The cost of this year’s breakfast is $5, with children two and under free.
