Alexander shot 26 of 39 from the field for 67 percent with Whitney Daugherty scoring 37 points as the Lady Spartans handed South Point its first loss of the season 67-51 Monday.

Missing from the Lady Pointers’ lineup was senior point guard Kayla Fletcher who sat out most of the game nursing a sprained ankle. She turned her ankle early and made a brief appearance in the third quarter and scored five points.

Daugherty was a one-man wrecking crew as she hit 14 of 19 floor shots including 3 of 4 from behind the arc. She was the only player in double figures for Alexander (4-1).

Jalynn Bradburn had 17 points while Kimmie Bennett got 10 points and eight rebounds for South Point (5-1)

Alexander led 13-5 at the end of the first quarter. Daugherty hit a 3-point and a layup that opened up a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter.

Bennett hit a triple to get South Point within 25-17, but Daugherty answered with a 3-pointer of her own and made a layup just before the buzzer off a steal and pass from Julie Els as Alexander led 32-17 at the break.

The Lady Spartans led by as many as 22 points in the third quarter. South Point was within 35-23 before Alexander outscored South Point 14-4 the rest of the quarter to lead 53-31.
