WILLOW WOOD — As Jack Nicholson once said in the movie by the same name, “Is this as good as it gets?”

It was for the Symmes Valley Vikings Tuesday as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 64-50 in a non-league game.

“For three quarters we played as well as we have all year,” said Vikings’ coach Jerome Fuller. “We subbed in the fourth quarter and lost some of our intensity, but up until then we played really well.”

Luke Taylor was good for the Vikings as he just missed a triple-double. Taylor had 20 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists.

Josh Craft had 14 points and three steals for the Vikings (4-1) while Ryan Stanley added eight points and seven rebounds.

Rock Hill (2-2) suffered through a 22 of 60 shooting night including 6 of 21 from 3-point range.

“We lost our whole identity,” said Rock Hill coach Bob Wilds. “But give Symmes Valley credit. They played well and they shot well.”

Symmes Valley was 29 of 63 for 46 percent compared to Rock Hill’s 36.7 percent.

Andy Knipp scored 18 points and had five rebounds for the Redmen. Mitchell Patterson finished with 10 points — he hit a pair of 3-pointers — and had two assists.

The Vikings jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and extended the lead to 31-16 at the half as Taylor scored six points in the second quarter.

Craft scored seven points in the third quarter as the Vikings blew the game open and built a 48-24 cushion.
