Man gets three and a half years for CCS violation

A Proctorville man was sentenced Wednesday to more than three years in prison for failing to report for his community-controlled sanctions.

Michael A. Zundel, 21, of 53 Township Road 1272, admitted the CCS violation in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

He had not reported to adult probation since March.

Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Zundel to three and a half years in prison, which is the remaining balance of the sentence that had been reserved for him when he was placed on community-controlled sanctions.

In other cases:

Jerri Blake, 36, of 8470 County Road 1, South Point, pleaded not guilty to second-degree burglary. Bowling set bond at $25,000 on her own recognizance and $25,000 cash or surety and scheduled a pretrial for Jan. 5.

Brandon K. Staten, 25, of 69 Wood Ave., Jackson, pleaded guilty to theft and misdemeanor criminal trespassing. Staten was convicted of taking merchandise including 24 video games from Walmart. The criminal trespassing charge stems from Staten having been ordered to stay out of Walmart prior to the theft, Assistant Prosecutor Mack Anderson said.

Bowling sentenced Staten to eight months in jail with credit for time served.

Michael Shumann, 24, of 1216 S. Fourth St. rear, Ironton, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon. Bowling sentenced Shumann to six months in prison and ordered him to pay court costs.

Terri Jenkins, 31, of 1424 County Road 1A, Ironton, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree theft. Bowling sentenced Jenkins to four years of community-controlled sanctions.

Bruce Marsh, 19, of 94 Township Road 303, Proctorville, pleaded not guilty to two counts of receiving stolen property and assaulting a police officer. Bowling set an OR bond of $20,000 and set a pretrial hearing for Jan. 26.

Roger Stone, 42, of 414 County Road 1, South Point, pleaded not guilty to first-degree rape. Cooper set bond at $55,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial hearing for Jan. 5.

Darren Sanders, 42, of 457 Private Drive 1664, Scottown, pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premise. Cooper sentenced Sanders to four years of community-controlled sanctions and ordered him to successfully complete the STAR community justice program.

Robin K. Black, 37, of 218 ½ S. Fourth St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to theft from an elderly person, a fourth-degree felony. Cooper sentenced Black to 12 months in prison and ordered her to pay $2,004 in restitution to the victim.

Scott E. Fisher, 39, of 455 29th St., Ashland, Ky., pleaded not guilty to fifth-degree criminal trespassing, fifth-degree aggravated possession of drugs and misdemeanor possession of drugs. Cooper set bond at $10,000 cash or surety and set a pretrial hearing for Dec. 29.

Cory J. Baughman, 28, of 144 12th St., Huntington, W.Va., denied violating the terms of his community-controlled sanctions. A CCS trial has been set for Dec.29.
