ASHLAND, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library has rescheduled and restructured some of its story time programs, to offer the best range of options for its youngest patrons.
The Youth Services Department offers weekly and monthly story time programs for babies through preschool age. Each program contains age-appropriate stories, songs and other fun activities. The age ranges given for each program are approximate. Parents can decide what is best for their child.
Story times are offered at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave., Ashland; and the Summit Branch, 1016 Summit Road.
The story time programs, days and times for 2011 are:
• Baby Time! (birth to 12 months) is a monthly program that includes language books and playful activities in a positive, supporting atmosphere. The 20-30 minute program is on the second Thursday, at 10:30 a.m., at Main.
• Toddler Time (up to age 3) is a 20-30 minute program featuring songs, short stories and active play. Activities are adapted by trained library staff to match the attention span of toddlers. It takes place every Friday, at 10:30 a.m. at Main, and at 1 p.m. at Summit.
• Preschool Story Time (ages 3 to 5) is a 30-45 minute program featuring books, songs, and games. The stories are longer and more complex than the ones in Toddler Time. It takes place on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m. at Summit and on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. at Main.
• Sleepyhead Story Time (ages 3 to 7) is a 30 minute weekly program, at 7 p.m. Thursdays at Main. Children are invited to come in their pajamas, and bring their special “bedtime friend.”
The library will also arrange special story times for home school groups, day cares, etc. To set something up, call Christi Griffith, at (606) 329-0518, ext. 1310.
