Mildred Rutledge

Mildred Rutledge, 96, of Ironton, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born, Dec. 16, 1914, a daughter of the late Jasper L. and Effie Elizabeth Simpson Gossett. She was the widow of Ralph Rutledge.

Ms. Rutledge was a 1932 graduate of Ironton High School and a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Ironton. She worked for the J.C. Penney Company as a sales clerk and retired in 1977 after 17 years of service.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

She is survived by a daughter, Katrine Henthorn of South Point; a daughter, Carolyn Lewis of Ironton; son and a daughter-in-law David and Susan Rutledge of Grove City; a sister, Wilma Vermillion of Council Bluff, Iowa; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Woodland Cemetery with Rev. John Eshelman and Rev. Steve Harvey officiating. There will be no visitation. Donations may be made in her name to Sharon Baptist Church, 2010 S. Fifth Street, Ironton, Ohio 45638. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
