The Rock Hill Redwomen used different defenses to help key a 54-42 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets Thursday.

“We played well defensively. We changed things up on defense and that helped,” said Rock Hill coach Alvin Carpenter. “Kelsey Blagg came in and helped run the offense for us and keep up settled down.

Chelsea Harper scored a game-high 23 points and had six steals to pace the Redwomen (5-5, 1-1). Courtney Duncan had 13 points along with five steals.

Dani Crabtree had nine rebounds and Tommi Butler eight.

Ashley Adkins scored 16 points and Darrien Hankins 10 for the Lady Hornets (3-6, 0-2).

Duncan scored seven points in the first quarter to offset six points by Adkins as Rock Hill took a 12-8 lead.

Hankins had six points in the second quarter as both teams scored 11 points and it was 23-19 at the half.

The Redwomen stretch the lead to 35-27 after three quarters.

Harper scored nine points and Butler had all eight of her points in the fourth quarter as Rock Hill pulled away. Adkins had seven points in the quarter for Coal Grove.

Rock Hill hosts South Point at 1 p.m. Saturday in a makeup game.
