South Point outscores Rock Hill in OVC, 71-67

PEDRO — Last Saturday the South Point Pointers played in a shootout. This Saturday they were in a shootout.
The Pointers had four players in double figures to help offset a 30-point performance by Rock Hill’s Andy Knipp as they posted a 71-67 win over the Redmen.
“It was another high-scoring game and those are the kind that work in our favor,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes. “We got some help inside tonight. Mike Leighty did a good job of finishing when we got him the ball.”
Leighty had a career-high 13 points to go with seven rebounds for the Pointers (5-8, 3-2) who committed just seven turnovers for the game.
Blake Barnes led South Point with 19 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals. Kyle Winkler finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists while Tevin Mitchell scored 12 points.
Mitchell Patterson added 16 points for the Redmen (4-7, 1-3).
South Point led 16-13 after the first quarter but the Redmen came back to take a 33-30 halftime lead. Knipp scored 16 of his points in the first half.
Blake Barnes scored eight points in the third quarter as South Point rallied to take a 48-46 lead and then outscored the Redmen 23-21 in the fourth quarter.
