Missing two players due to sickness and playing a third game in four days, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers fell 57-47 Thursday to the Portsmouth Lady Trojans.

“We were tired and shorthanded,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Chris Ball. “It wasn’t a good day.

“They’re bigger than us and they took advantage of it on the offensive glass and we couldn’t find any consistency.”

Sarah Mayo had 12 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Lady Panthers (9-4). Amanda Ruffner added 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

Tasha McGinnis scored 17 and Ri-chiel McGraw 14 to pace Portsmouth.

Chesapeake led 12-10 after the first quarter as Ruffner scored six, but McGraw had six of her own in the second quarter and Portsmouth rallied for a 24-18 halftime lead.

McGinnis scored six in the third quarter and the Lady Trojans were up 42-34.

Jordan Porter had seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to rally the Lady Panthers.

Starter Kristen Webb and backup Mackenzie Moore both missed the game for Chesapeake due to illness.
