PORTSMOUTH — Jeane Elizabeth Fisher Morrison, 89, of Portsmouth, formerly of Ironton, passed away Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at the Hill View Retirement Center in Portsmouth. The Ironton native was born March 30, 1921, the daughter of the late Harry Andrew Fisher and Julia Helen Murdock Fisher. She is survived by her husband, Charles Elisha Morrison, whom she married March 17, 1946.

Mrs. Morrison was a 1939 graduate of Ironton High School. She was a former accounts payable clerk for Ashland Oil and a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ironton, where she was a Sunday school teacher, in the adult choir and a member of the First United Methodist Women Society. She was very active in her church work and as a volunteer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Edgar Fisher; and a sister-in-law, Charlene Fisher.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Juliane Morrison McGowan of Columbus; a sister, Joyce Fisher Miles and her husband, Harold “Hal” of Columbus; a brother, John Andrew Fisher of Dyersburg, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jonathan McGowan, Jenita McGowan, and Jessica McGowan; grandchildren’s father, Bruce McGowan of Columbus; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Ironton with Dr. Wayne Young officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from noon until the time of the service at the church. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
