Zane Trace controlled the game’s tempo in the first half, but the Pointers got things moving faster in the second half and rallied for 63-61 win over the Pioneers.

“They slowed it down the first half. We were able to speed things up in the second half,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

“This was the best we’ve shot on the road and we hit our free throws. That’s what won the game for us.”

Zane Trace led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter before the Pointers closed to within 24-22 at the half.

Tevin Mitchell hit three 3-pointers and Blake Barnes scored eight points in the third quarter as South Point surged ahead 47-43.

The Pointers went 8 for 8 from the foul line over the final 1:30 of the game to clinch the win. Mitchell was 4 for 4 while Kyle Winkler and Brandon Barnes sank two each.

Winkler led the Pointers with 19points and also grabbed five rebounds.

Brandon Barnes had six rebounds to go with eight points.
