PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen may want to copy Evan Salyers.

While Rock Hill had trouble scoring, Salyers had 17 points to lead the Fairland Dragons to a 58-34 Ohio Valley Conference win on Friday.

“We just couldn’t score. We missed some easy shots and we missed a lot of front ends of one-and-ones,” said Redmen coach Bob Wilds.

Rock Hill was also hampered by the absence of leading scorer and rebounder Andy Knipp who missed the game with a sprained ankle.

“We had a hard time guarding Salyers. He went off on us in the first quarter and that was pretty much the game,” said Wilds.

Salyers scored 11 points in the first quarter as Fairland raced to a 24-13 lead. Shane Russell had 11 of his 14 points in the quarter for Rock Hill.

Neither team could get their offense going in the second quarter as Fairland outscored the Redmen 6-3 and it was 30-16 at the break.

Fairland began the second half with a 6-0 run and six different players scored in the third quarter as the lead grew to 48-27.

Fairland is now 13-6 overall and 7-2 in the OVC. The Dragons hosted rival Chesapeake on Saturday night.

Rock Hill ends the regular season 7-13 and 3-7 in the league. The Redmen face Minford at 7 p.m. on Monday in the Div. III sectional tournament at Jackson.
