A Huntington man is in the Lawrence County Jail today following a police chase that ended in Chesapeake Monday.

Michael Randall Willis, 40, was arrested by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office after he allegedly fled Huntington officials and crossed the Ohio River into Chesapeake.

Sheriff Jeff Lawless said deputies from his office, the Chesapeake Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were notified of the police chase at 11:59 a.m. Monday, shortly after the man is alleged to have committed a sexual assault. Willis then fled from Huntington officers. The man crossed a bridge at 17th Street in Huntington and onto State Route 7 in Chesapeake.

At the Chesapeake Bypass, the man made a U-turn and crashed a short time later as he attempted to take the on-ramp of the 17th Street bridge, Lawless said.

Willis is scheduled for an extradition hearing today in Lawrence County Municipal Court.
