CINCINNATI — The Bengals have filled the main opening on their coaching staff by hiring James Urban as receivers coach.
Urban has been the quarterbacks coach with Philadelphia the last two years. He replaces Mike Sheppard, who went to Jacksonville as the quarterbacks coach earlier this month.
Urban will work with new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, who replaced Bob Bratkowski following a 4-12 season. Top receiver Terrell Owens isn’t expected to return, but Chad Ochocinco has another year under contract.
The Bengals also announced on Monday that two assistants would get expanded roles next season — assistant defensive backs coach Paul Guenther and defensive quality control coach David Lippincott.
